New Delhi, April 19: The Women’s Reservation Bill sparked enthusiasm among women across the country, promising increased political participation. However, following its failure in the special session of Parliament, there is widespread anger among women nationwide. NDA leaders have also expressed their discontent, claiming the opposition does not want women to advance or receive reservations.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Anil Rajbhar stated that since independence, much has been said about women’s empowerment, but no government has implemented it at the grassroots level. He criticized the opposition for politicizing the Modi government’s efforts to empower women.
Minister Aseem Arun lamented that it is unfortunate that there are still individuals opposing the Women’s Reservation Law. He pointed out that these are the same people who have previously torn the bill apart and consistently opposed it. Their actions have led to further delays for the country, which should not have happened.
BJP MP Arun Govil accused Congress, TMC, and other parties of conspiring to strip women of their rights. BJP leader Payal Behl Vaidya from Shimla remarked that Priyanka Gandhi claims to advocate for women’s welfare, yet her celebration over the bill’s failure raises doubts about her sincerity.
Union Minister Sanjay Seth asserted that the opposition, including Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD, and Stalin’s party, has committed a grave sin by not supporting the bill.
Kiran Chaudhary, another BJP leader, criticized Congress for never promoting women’s advancement, calling this a dark chapter in the nation’s history. She warned that Congress would pay a heavy price for their actions in the future.
Madhya Pradesh Minister Krishna Gaur mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has humbly apologized to the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the nation, expressing regret that the promise of political rights may not have been fully realized.
Minister Vishwas Sarang stated that the opposition’s resistance, particularly from Congress and Mamata Banerjee, reflects their anti-women mentality.
Minister Nirmala Bhuria emphasized that the Nari Shakti Vandan Act illustrates how Congress and its allies have betrayed women in various ways, leading to widespread anger among women across the state and the nation.
Leader of the Opposition in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Jairam Thakur, noted that Prime Minister Modi has always been clear about the need for women’s reservation, highlighting that the bill was presented and passed in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in 2023.
Union Minister Annapurna Devi declared that April 17 will be remembered as a dark day of the 21st century. She stressed that it is time to politically empower women, as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act aimed to increase women’s representation in state assemblies and the Lok Sabha. Millions of women looked forward to this bill, but due to the anti-women stance of the India Mahagathbandhan, it was voted down, breaking the hearts of women across the nation.
