Police Uncover Burglary Ring in Chhattisgarh, Four Arrested Including Jeweler

Raipur, August 25: The police in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district have uncovered a burglary ring responsible for targeting two homes in the village of Sonthi on the same night. Four suspects have been arrested, and stolen gold and silver jewelry have been recovered based on their confessions and identification.

According to reports, the first incident occurred at the residence of Kamla Bai Yadav in Ward Number 11 of Sakti. Kamla Bai informed the police that on the night of July 28, after having dinner with her family, they all went to sleep. Around 3 AM, she discovered that the cupboard in her home was open. Upon inspection, she found that gold and silver jewelry, cash, and essential documents such as bank passbooks, land records, PAN cards, and Ayushman cards were missing.

Kamla Bai also reported that her son Krishna Charan Yadav’s mobile phone was stolen. Additionally, about 20 packets of cigarettes kept at a nearby snack shop were taken by the burglars. Evidence indicated that the intruders had entered through the back door after removing a stick used to secure it. They escaped by breaking the lock on the main door and even drank half a bottle of water from the refrigerator.

The second incident occurred at the home of Devaram Patel, who lives behind the Kanjihouse in Sonthi. Devaram stated that after dining with his family on the same night, they locked the main gate of their boundary wall. However, when they woke up around 8 AM, they found the cupboard and the iron door of the porch open. Stolen items included a gold necklace weighing approximately 15 grams, earrings, silver anklets, a silver mangalsutra, and four silver rings, with a total estimated value of around ₹295,000.

Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Patel noted that the similarity in the modus operandi of both incidents led the Sakti police to believe they were committed by the same gang. Utilizing technical evidence and informant networks, the police tracked down the suspects. Based on intelligence, Balveer Satnami, Flesh Sahu, and Sameer Daniel, all residents of Sonthi, were taken into custody for questioning.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to collaborating with another accomplice to commit the burglaries. They revealed that after the theft, they divided the stolen items and hid them in different locations. Further investigation revealed that some of the stolen gold and silver jewelry had been sold to Amit Agarwal at Banwarilal Premchand Jewelers in Sakti.

The police recovered all stolen jewelry and other items based on the suspects’ information. According to the police, they achieved a 100% recovery rate of the stolen goods, with a total estimated value of around ₹385,000.

After gathering sufficient evidence, all four suspects were arrested on August 24. The arrested individuals include Balveer Satnami (22), Flesh Sahu (26), Sameer Daniel (19), all residents of Sonthi, and Amit Agarwal (45) from Sakti.
