
Lucknow, June 5: Police encounters with criminals have been reported in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and Hardoi.
In the Nigohan police station area of Lucknow, an encounter took place on May 31 with a suspect accused of rape. Following the encounter, police apprehended the accused auto driver from the Gautamkheda forest.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Amit Kumar Anand stated that a 19-year-old woman filed a complaint at the Nigohan police station on June 1, alleging that an auto driver had raped her. Upon receiving the information, a case was registered at Nigohan police station, and teams from Nigohan, SOG, and surveillance were deployed.
Deputy Commissioner Anand further explained that 450 CCTV footages were reviewed, leading to the identification of the auto in which the victim was traveling. The police received information that the suspect had been spotted, prompting them to set up checkpoints in the area.
During the checking, police noticed an auto approaching. Realizing he was surrounded, the suspect opened fire on the police team. In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring the suspect in the leg. He was subsequently sent to the hospital for treatment. A firearm, a cartridge, and two spent shells were recovered from him. Another accomplice who fled is expected to be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, in Hardoi, the city police and SOG/surveillance teams conducted a joint operation that led to the arrest of two notorious criminals during an encounter. According to police, stolen motorcycles, a scooter, two gold chains, an illegal firearm, cartridges, and spent shells were recovered from the arrested individuals.
The suspects have been identified as Pawan Kumar and Ankit Verma. Police received a tip-off that some criminals were planning a major crime. Acting on this information, the police set up a blockade, during which the criminals fired at the police team.
In the police’s retaliatory action, both suspects were injured and apprehended at the scene. The recovered items included an unregistered motorcycle, a stolen scooter, two gold chains, a .315 bore firearm, cartridges, and spent shells. The injured suspects were admitted to the district hospital in Hardoi for treatment. The police are proceeding with further legal actions in the case.
CO City Ankit Mishra reported that on the night of June 4, information was received via a tip-off that some criminals had gathered near the police station area. They were armed and planning a significant incident. After receiving this information, police set up a blockade. When the suspects realized they were surrounded, they fired at the police with intent to kill. The police responded in self-defense, injuring two suspects in their legs. The injured criminals were taken to the district hospital in Hardoi for treatment.
