
Reasi, June 3: The Reasi police in Jammu and Kashmir have taken action against two individuals involved in the sale and possession of illegal tobacco products. This operation is part of the ongoing “Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign,” where police are actively combating narcotics and prohibited substances.
The incident occurred in the Ban Ganga area of Reasi district. During routine patrols and checkpoint inspections, police spotted two individuals carrying bags heading from Ban Ganga towards Charan Paduka. Based on their suspicious behavior, the police stopped them for an inspection.
Upon investigation, the individuals were identified as Bhushan Singh, son of Chain Singh, a resident of Purana Darur, Katra, and Abdul Rashid, son of Ali Mohammad, from Daggal Halal, Tehsil Kalakot, Rajouri district. A search of their bags revealed a significant quantity of tobacco-related products, including cigarettes, bidis, pan masala, and other tobacco items, allegedly intended for sale.
According to the police, during questioning, the two men failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the source and sale of these products. Consequently, the police seized the items and initiated further action.
A case has been registered at the Katra police station under the relevant sections of the law. An FIR has been filed under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, and a detailed investigation is underway.
The Reasi police have stated that their campaign against illegal tobacco and other narcotic substances will continue. They have urged the public to report any illegal activities to the nearest police station to ensure timely action and protect the community from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
