Police Capture Main Suspect in Rashid Murder Case Near Signature Bridge

New Delhi, June 23: The police have made significant progress in the murder case of Rashid, a water supplier, in the Dayalpur area of Northeast Delhi. The main suspect, Haroon, was arrested on Tuesday following a police encounter near Signature Bridge in Khajuri Khas. According to police reports, a total of 14 rounds were fired during the confrontation.

Haroon is an active member of the Haroon gang and the primary suspect in Rashid’s murder. He was apprehended by a special team from the Northeast District Special Staff during a targeted operation. The police had received precise intelligence about his activities, which led to the ambush near Signature Bridge.

When the police attempted to stop Haroon and asked him to surrender, he allegedly opened fire on the police team. In response, the police fired back in self-defense, initiating a shootout between both parties.

During the encounter, one bullet struck a police officer’s bulletproof vest, saving his life and preventing a major incident. Haroon sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, after which the police managed to subdue him. Following his arrest, he was sent to the hospital for treatment. A crime team and forensic science lab (FSL) team arrived at the scene to collect evidence for the investigation.

Rashid was shot dead a few days earlier inside his shop by three armed assailants. According to Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) HGS Dhaliwal, Rashid was allegedly linked to gangster Naseem Durrani and his criminal network. Initial investigations and local intelligence suggest that this murder may be a result of a long-standing gang war between Durrani’s and Haroon’s gangs.

In this case, Dayalpur police had already arrested two suspects based on technical evidence. Additionally, the crime branch had apprehended two minor shooters connected to the Anwar Thakur-Haroon gang. A special team led by Inspector Man Singh and Inspector Sundar Gautam was formed to capture the murderers.
