PM Modis Leadership Journey Symbolizes Significant Change in Governance and Public Aspirations: Akhilesh Mishra

New Delhi, March 22: In a remarkable milestone for India’s political landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving leader in the country’s history. He has surpassed the record of former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling. Akhilesh Mishra, CEO of the renowned think tank Bluecraft Digital Foundation, remarked that this achievement reflects a rare democratic endorsement sustained through multiple elections.

Mishra took to the social media platform ‘X’ to highlight that in a highly competitive democracy like India, longevity in power is not easily attained. It must be earned repeatedly through the trust of the people.

He emphasized that remaining in power in India is not an inherent blessing; rather, it is acquired through elections and decisions made over time. Mishra pointed out the significance of this achievement, noting that PM Modi has spent over 8,900 days as the head of an elected government, first as Chief Minister of Gujarat and now as Prime Minister, surpassing Chamling’s tenure.

He stated that such continuity in leadership is unusual in democracies worldwide, where widely popular leaders often come and go. Even the most influential leaders in India’s past did not achieve this level of political longevity.

Mishra remarked that PM Modi’s tenure is notable not only for its duration but also for the nature of the renewed mandate received through successive elections. He referenced Modi’s record in Gujarat, where his governance, initiated after the Bhuj earthquake in 2001, evolved into a comprehensive governance model emphasizing infrastructure, manufacturing, agriculture, and industrial expansion.

He noted that Gujarat’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) grew sixteenfold between 2002 and 2023, with the manufacturing sector accounting for nearly 44% of the state’s economy. The annual growth rate of agriculture in the state has been around 8%, significantly higher than the national average.

Mishra argued that one of Narendra Modi’s key political contributions has been moving away from traditional anti-establishment sentiments to adopt what he describes as a ‘performance-based pro-establishment sentiment.’

He also mentioned several national-level developments during Modi’s tenure, including the expansion of digital public infrastructure like UPI, growth in electronics manufacturing, and a significant increase in defense exports.

Mishra concluded that this achievement is significant, as PM Modi’s leadership journey not only reflects his political longevity but also signifies a broader transformation in governance and public aspirations in India.
