Mumbai, June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for various development projects worth approximately ₹2,970 crores in Daman on Friday. These initiatives aim to enhance regional connectivity, healthcare services, tourism, and infrastructure. During the event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the new terminal building at Namoh Airport, which will strengthen air connectivity for Daman and the entire Union Territory, significantly boosting tourism.
Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated the Namoh Hospital and laid the foundation stone for several key projects, including the iconic bridge, Daman Convention Center, and the NIFT campus. The construction of modern multipurpose jetties and port facilities on the islands of Kalapeni and Kadmat in Lakshadweep has also commenced.
In his address, PM Modi remarked that Daman has become a vibrant example of ‘Mini India,’ showcasing the diversity of the nation with people from various regions coexisting. Residents of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman, and Diu have long envisioned development, and today those dreams are becoming a reality. New projects related to connectivity, health, education, tourism, and urban infrastructure will ease the lives of residents and create new opportunities for the youth.
He highlighted India’s economic progress, stating that the country achieved a growth rate of 7.7% in 2025-26, with a rate of 7.8% in the quarter ending March 31. Thanks to robust infrastructure and welfare schemes, India remains the fastest-growing economy globally. Despite global challenges, India will continue to advance on the path of ‘Reform, Perform, and Transform.’
PM Modi noted that this Union Territory has achieved 100% solar energy usage in government buildings. In Diu, daytime electricity demand is fully met by solar energy, providing residents with additional income opportunities through rooftop solar plants.
Regarding healthcare, the Prime Minister emphasized that the NDA government’s true measure of development is the improvement in the lives of the poor. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, poor families receive free treatment up to ₹5 lakhs. Previously, quality healthcare facilities were lacking, but now medical colleges and postgraduate medical education are available. Following Silvassa, the Namoh Hospital has now opened in Daman.
On tourism, PM Modi stated that the government is focusing on promoting local art and culture. Campaigns like ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ have inspired people to explore the country’s diversity. Heritage tourism, beach tourism, eco-tourism, and adventure tourism are receiving renewed energy.
He added that Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman, and Diu are rich in natural beauty and hold immense tourism potential. In 2021, around 600,000 tourists visited the area, and this number is projected to reach approximately 5 million by 2025. Modern ports and marine infrastructure are being developed to strengthen the blue economy. The new projects initiated in Lakshadweep will provide a new direction for the region’s economy and connectivity, marking a milestone in its development.
