
New Delhi, February 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on her birth anniversary. He highlighted her journey as one marked by courage and strong determination.
In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “I remember Jayalalithaa Ji on her birth anniversary. She carved a place in the hearts and minds of countless people as a charismatic leader and exceptional administrator. Her life journey was filled with immense courage and unwavering resolve. As Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, she advanced welfare-based governance with a special focus on women’s empowerment, social justice, and inclusive development. She was both compassionate and decisive. I fondly recall our conversations.”
The Prime Minister noted, “In my ‘Mann Ki Baat‘ program, I mentioned how deep the connection between Amma Jayalalithaa and the people of Tamil Nadu was, which I still see during my visits to the state. The mention of Jayalalithaa brings smiles to the faces of the people of Tamil Nadu. Our women’s empowerment initiatives were particularly linked to her efforts, as she made commendable strides for mothers, sisters, and daughters during her tenure.”
PM Modi reminisced about his time as Chief Minister and how he and Jayalalithaa often discussed good governance. He recalled being invited to lunch by her during the Pongal festival.
“Every meeting and conversation with Jayalalithaa Ji remains fresh in my memory. She attended both of my oath-taking ceremonies in Gujarat in 2002 and 2012. During our time as Chief Ministers, we frequently exchanged ideas on topics like good governance,” he added.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute on X, stating that Jayalalithaa, a leader of the people, transformed Tamil Nadu’s development through her commitment to the welfare of the poor and empowerment of women. He emphasized that her dedication to public service will always serve as an inspiration.
