PM Modi Leads High-Level Meeting on West Asia Crisis, Focuses on Energy and Safety of Indians

New Delhi, July 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the fourth special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Thursday. The meeting reviewed India’s preparedness amid escalating tensions in West Asia. Key discussions centered around energy supply, food availability, and the safety of Indian citizens and seafarers.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Cabinet Secretary briefed the CCS on the current geopolitical situation and outlined steps taken to ensure adequate availability of petroleum products, LNG, LPG, and food supplies.

He noted that sources for LPG procurement have been diversified and expanded. Refineries are operating at over 100% capacity, ensuring continuous production of petrol, diesel, and other petroleum products.

The meeting also assessed plans to increase piped natural gas (PNG) connections, which have seen significant growth. The needs for fertilizers for the upcoming Rabi season were evaluated, and alternative sources were discussed. The Prime Minister directed that all necessary measures be taken to ensure uninterrupted fertilizer supply.

The situation of Indian seafarers working on domestic and foreign vessels in conflict zones was also addressed. The Prime Minister instructed the establishment of a mechanism to provide timely information, emergency assistance, and necessary counseling to these workers and their families.

He emphasized that every effort should be made to ensure that the conflict does not affect Indian citizens and the Indian community abroad. Stressing the importance of energy self-sufficiency, he called for greater focus on renewable energy sources like solar power and other non-fossil fuels.

The PMO’s statement indicated that the Prime Minister has directed the continuation of a strategy involving ‘coordinated efforts from the entire government.’ Additionally, a joint and coordinated monitoring system should be maintained to keep a close watch on the situation and swiftly implement measures to protect citizens’ interests.
