New Delhi, February 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the enduring relevance and transformative power of radio on the occasion of World Radio Day. He described radio as a “reliable voice” that connects people in remote villages and bustling cities alike.

In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “World Radio Day is a day to celebrate a medium that serves as a reliable voice for people from distant villages to busy cities. Over the years, radio has provided timely information, nurtured talent, and encouraged creativity. This day recognizes the efforts of everyone connected to this medium.”

Highlighting his monthly radio address, “Mann Ki Baat,” the Prime Minister noted how the program has evolved into a unique platform for direct dialogue with citizens.

He further remarked, “Through Mann Ki Baat, I have directly experienced the potential of radio to showcase the social strength of our people. This month’s program will be broadcast on Sunday, February 22. Please share your suggestions for the program.”

The Prime Minister’s comments underline the continued importance of radio as one of the most dynamic, responsive, and engaging forms of communication.

Despite rapid technological advancements and the rise of digital platforms, radio has adeptly adapted, offering listeners new and interactive ways to engage and connect.

In India, the national broadcaster, All India Radio (AIR), is one of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world. Its domestic service includes over 400 stations across the country, reaching approximately 92% of India’s geographical area and 99.19% of its population. The broadcaster airs programs in 23 languages and 146 dialects, reflecting the country’s rich linguistic diversity.

Radio continues to serve as a powerful and cost-effective communication tool, particularly suited for reaching remote communities and marginalized segments of society, including the illiterate, persons with disabilities, women, youth, and economically disadvantaged groups.
