Bishkek, September 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Bishkek Arena on Monday for the inauguration of the Sixth World Nomad Games during his official visit to Kyrgyzstan. This prestigious event brings together athletes and participants from around the globe to celebrate traditional sports, culture, and the heritage of nomadic civilizations.
Notably, Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at the inauguration ceremony in the same vehicle. The ceremony commenced at 9 PM local time at the Bishkek Arena. The main events of the games will take place in the regions surrounding Cholpon-Ata, Kychtyn, and Issyk-Kul.
Over 110 countries are participating in the Sixth World Nomad Games 2026. India is represented by a delegation of 87 members, which includes 73 athletes, 10 cultural representatives, and four participants in scientific programs. Prime Minister Modi‘s presence underscores India’s engagement with Kyrgyzstan and highlights the broader cultural and people-to-people ties associated with the World Nomad Games.
This year’s edition features 43 sports, including traditional wrestling styles such as Gulesh, Kurash, and Mongol Bukh, along with Kok Boru, Kecapara, equestrian events, Toguz Korgool, Mangala, Oware, Chuko, Ordo, tug-of-war, and strongman competitions.
Cultural programs include “Echo of Nomads,” Nomad Fest, “Heritage of Nomads,” Art Lab, and Ethno-Market. A special scientific program focusing on nomadic heritage, traditional knowledge, and cultural dialogue will also be held during the games.
The concept of the World Nomad Games was initiated in 2012 when Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkey signed the Bishkek Declaration at a summit of Turkic countries’ heads of state. The first edition took place in Kyrgyzstan in 2014, followed by events in 2016 and 2018. The fourth edition was held in Turkey in 2022, and the fifth in Kazakhstan in 2024. Now, the sixth edition is taking place in Kyrgyzstan.
