Piyush Goyal Meets Dr. MJ Khan to Discuss Agricultural Collaboration

New Delhi, May 7: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, held a meeting with Dr. MJ Khan, Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture, on Thursday. Goyal shared this information via social media.

In his post on the platform ‘X’, Goyal stated that the discussion focused on enhancing the quality of life for farmers, strengthening India’s position in the global agricultural landscape, deepening collaboration with African regions, and sharing India’s expertise in this sector.

He also mentioned that new methods to increase agricultural cooperation for long-term food security were discussed.

Earlier, Goyal expressed his pleasure in meeting Suraj Saharan, Co-founder and Executive Director of Delhivery. They engaged in a deep conversation about innovation and tech-led business models, highlighting Saharan’s impact on making Indian logistics more transparent, efficient, and future-ready.

Additionally, Goyal convened a significant meeting with officials from the Department of Commerce (DOC) and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Thursday. They deliberated on measures to enhance the global expansion of Indian businesses.

According to the minister, the discussions centered on promoting exports and investments, opening opportunities for aspiring exporters, and penetrating new global markets.

In a post on the social media platform X, Goyal noted that strategies to increase global reach for Indian businesses, strengthen export promotion efforts, and enhance participation from industries across the country were also considered.

Latest data compiled by the Ministry of Commerce indicates a 4.6% increase in India’s total goods and services exports during the fiscal year 2025-26, reaching a record $863.11 billion, up from $825.26 billion in the previous fiscal year, despite uncertainties arising from the U.S. tariff disputes and geopolitical tensions.

Merchandise exports saw a 0.93% increase during the fiscal year, rising from $437.70 billion in 2024-25 to $441.78 billion. This growth occurred in a challenging year marked by disruptions in shipping and uncertainties in foreign market demand.

Service exports recorded a robust growth of 8.71%, reaching an all-time high of $421.32 billion in 2025-26, surpassing the previous fiscal year’s $387.55 billion. This increase reflects the ongoing global demand for India’s IT services, business solutions, and professional expertise.
