Pilgrimage to the Sacred Maa Purnagiri Temple: A Spiritual Haven in the Himalayas

Tanakpur, March 21: Nestled in the beautiful valleys of Uttarakhand, where devotion flows like a river and the chants of Maa Rani echo through the towering Himalayan peaks, lies the renowned Maa Purnagiri Temple near Tanakpur in Champawat district.

This temple is not only a center of spiritual energy but also offers a remarkable experience of peace and faith to its visitors. It is believed that Maa Rani fulfills the wishes of all devotees who come here. The temple holds immense religious significance and is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. This sacred site, cradled by the mountains, provides spiritual tranquility and prosperity.

Every year, a grand fair takes place during the Chaitra month, attracting millions of devotees from across the country who come to seek blessings from Maa. The atmosphere during the fair is filled with devotion, hymns, and rituals. On Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the temple’s importance.

The Chief Minister shared a video of the temple on his social media platform, X, stating, “The Maa Purnagiri Temple in Tanakpur (Champawat) is one of the revered Shakti Peeths. It is believed that the navel of Maa Sati fell here, making this site a center of immense power and faith. Each year, a grand fair is held during the Chaitra month, where millions of devotees come to seek blessings and darshan.”

He added, “This sacred site, nestled in the mountains, offers devotees both spiritual peace and stunning natural beauty. When you visit Tanakpur, make sure to pay your respects at this holy place.”

Additionally, the Maa Purnagiri Temple is home to the ‘Jhootha Mandir’ (False Temple), which has its own intriguing story. It is said that a wealthy merchant vowed to build a golden temple for Maa Rani in hopes of having a son. After his wish was granted, he, driven by greed, constructed a temple using copper plated with gold. However, when laborers attempted to transport the temple to the sacred site, it became immovable after a rest. Since then, it has been known as the False Temple, and devotees offer prayers there after visiting Maa Purnagiri.
