Chhattisgarh Records 660 mm Average Rainfall So Far

Shimla, August 13 (Kiran News)Himachal Pradesh received some respite from rain in the past 24 hours, but the danger is far from over as an orange alert remains in place. Kasauli in Solan district recorded the highest rainfall at 23 mm, followed by Naina Devi in Bilaspur with 18 mm, and Sarahan in Shimla with 15 mm. In the state capital Shimla, rainfall stopped on Tuesday, though the sky remained cloudy on Wednesday.

Chhattisgarh Records 660 mm Average Rainfall So Far

The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 13 and 14 in Bilaspur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts, issuing an orange alert. Yellow alert has been issued for Una, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kullu, and Solan. From August 15 to 19, the state will remain under a yellow alert, with heavy rainfall likely on August 15 and 16 in Una, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur.

Landslides, Road Closures, and Disruptions

Heavy rainfall has led to continued incidents of landslides. As of Wednesday morning, 326 roads remain blocked, including National Highways 305 (Jahed-Khanag in Kullu) and 505 (Lahaul-Spiti). Mandi district accounts for 180 blocked roads, followed by Kullu with 73, Chamba with 37, and Kangra with 25. Power supply has improved with only 37 transformers still non-functional — 24 in Mandi, 11 in Lahaul-Spiti, and 2 in Kullu. Water supply remains affected, with 181 schemes disrupted, including 72 in Mandi and 41 in Kangra.

Casualties and Damage

This monsoon season has claimed 240 lives, with 36 people missing and 324 injured. Mandi has reported the highest number of deaths at 47, followed by Kangra (39), Chamba (26), Shimla and Kullu (21 each), Kinnaur and Hamirpur (16 each), Solan (15), Una (14), Bilaspur (10), Sirmaur (9), and Lahaul-Spiti (6).

A total of 2,124 houses have been damaged across the state, with 509 completely destroyed. Additionally, 311 shops and 1,993 cowsheds have been lost. Mandi alone has seen damage to 1,188 houses, of which 410 were completely destroyed.

Economic Losses

According to official data, the state has suffered losses worth ₹2,011 crore so far. The Public Works Department has reported damages of ₹1,071 crore, while the Jal Shakti Department has incurred losses of ₹686 crore. This monsoon has witnessed 55 landslides, 60 floods, and 30 incidents of cloudbursts.
