Galle, August 16: India has strengthened its position in the ongoing first Test match against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium. By the end of the second day, the Indian team has scored 460 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
The first session of the day was completely washed out due to rain. However, India managed to bat for 21 overs in the second session, scoring 76 runs while losing 3 wickets. In the third session, they played 22 overs, adding 96 runs and losing 4 wickets.
Winning the toss, India opted to bat first. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul put together 47 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal was dismissed for 32 runs, after which Devdutt Paddikal took charge. He formed a crucial partnership with KL Rahul, scoring 162 runs for the second wicket, with Rahul contributing 82 runs.
Paddikal added 39 runs with captain Shubman Gill, who was out for 16 runs. Paddikal then partnered with Rishabh Pant, adding 71 runs to take the team past 300. Pant scored 39 runs with 5 boundaries before returning to the pavilion. Paddikal, however, narrowly missed his first double century, scoring 167 runs off 230 balls, including 1 six and 15 fours.
Following this, Manav Suthar added 55 runs with Dhruv Jurel. Jurel scored 51 runs off 68 balls with 5 boundaries, while Suthar contributed 24 runs. By the end of the day, Kuldeep Yadav (12) and Prasidh Krishna (1) were not out. For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya took the most wickets, claiming 4, while Keshara Senanayake took 3, and Asitha Fernando picked up 1 wicket.
