Dehradun, May 7: The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has been ongoing for the past 19 days, attracting a significant number of devotees. So far, over 772,000 pilgrims have participated in the sacred journey.
According to reports, approximately 345,000 pilgrims have visited Kedarnath, while nearly 185,000 have made their way to Badrinath. Additionally, around 116,000 devotees have reached Yamunotri, and over 115,000 have visited Gangotri.
The number of pilgrims continues to rise, but the journey remains challenging. Since the start of the Char Dham Yatra on April 19, 29 pilgrims have sadly lost their lives due to health-related issues.
This year, the pilgrimage commenced with the opening of the Yamunotri and Gangotri temples on April 19, followed by the openings of Kedarnath and Badrinath on April 22 and 23, respectively.
The Char Dham Yatra is considered extremely sacred and spiritually rewarding in Hinduism. It traverses the four major shrines nestled in the Himalayas: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. It is believed that this journey grants individuals spiritual peace and liberation. Traditionally, the pilgrimage begins at Yamunotri, followed by Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally Badrinath.
Traditionally, the Char Dham Yatra is undertaken from west to east. It starts at Yamunotri, then proceeds to Gangotri, and concludes with visits to Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is believed that in the 8th century, Adi Shankaracharya popularized this pilgrimage to revive Hindu spiritual traditions.
