Kolkata, July 2: In a decisive move, authorities used bulldozers to demolish an illegally constructed café owned by Imran Molla along the Matla River, near the Sundarbans, on Thursday morning. Imran Molla is the son of Shaukat Molla, a former Trinamool Congress MLA.
The café, named ‘Aranyer Kule,’ was located in the Mokhali area under the jurisdiction of the Jivantala police station in South 24 Parganas. The district administration arrived with bulldozers to carry out the demolition, which was overseen by a significant presence of police and administrative officials.
On June 22, the district administration had issued a notice to Imran Molla, instructing him to demolish the illegally constructed café. According to government officials, if the café was not demolished within seven days, bulldozers would be employed for the task.
Since Imran Molla failed to respond to the earlier notice, the demolition process commenced today. The administration reported that the demolition was proceeding peacefully. Officials claimed that the action was in accordance with legal procedures following allegations of land encroachment.
Imran Molla had constructed this café in Mokhali, South 24 Parganas, while his father, Shaukat Molla, was a prominent leader and Trinamool MLA in the district. Local residents allege that Imran Molla engaged in illegal activities due to his father’s influence. Following Shaukat’s defeat in the recent assembly elections, multiple cases have been filed against him.
The controversial café is among these cases. Meanwhile, Shaukat has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the Bhangar bomb blast case. Previously, investigators had summoned his son Imran for questioning. During that time, a notice was affixed at the café’s entrance requesting information regarding its status.
Recently, the Canning sub-divisional office ordered the owner to demolish the café within seven days voluntarily. Failure to comply would result in the administration taking action to remove it, with the costs incurred charged to the café’s owner.
The administration had previously instructed Imran to submit all legal documents related to the land by June 18, but he was unable to present the necessary documentation. Following this, the administration ensured that action would be taken.
