New Delhi, June 20: Preparations for International Yoga Day are in full swing. The Ministry of Ayush is dedicated to making this year’s event a grand success. According to the ministry, registrations on the ‘Yoga Sangam Portal’ have surpassed 600,000, reflecting the enthusiasm of people to celebrate Yoga Day.
The Ministry of Ayush reports that organizations across the country will hold yoga sessions based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) and will practice yoga alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21.
The ministry describes this achievement as evidence of “unprecedented enthusiasm among institutions and communities nationwide.” They expect registered organizations to gather people in their respective areas, contributing to a collective national movement promoting health and overall well-being.
‘Yoga Sangam’ is one of the key initiatives for International Yoga Day 2026. Its goal is to ensure that the yoga practice on this day is not confined to a single location but is linked to a national program. The ministry stated that the ‘Yoga Sangam Portal’ has become “the digital backbone of this initiative,” facilitating registration, coordination, and participation.
This initiative has reached all states and union territories, encompassing 778 districts. Data released by the ministry indicates that over 322,000 government institutions have registered on the portal. Additionally, nearly 200,000 educational institutions, over 16,000 private organizations, more than 5,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and approximately 44,000 entities from other categories have also joined.
In terms of state participation, West Bengal has seen the highest involvement, with over 276,000 organizations registered. Rajasthan follows with around 150,000 registrations. Significant participation has also been reported from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.
The Ministry of Ayush has urged more organizations and community groups to register on the ‘Yoga Sangam Portal’ to join this initiative. The registration process includes providing organizational and contact information, verifying credentials, sharing venue details, and obtaining a reference number for participation.
This year’s International Yoga Day will be celebrated under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging.” The ministry stated that the increasing participation on the Yoga Sangam Portal reflects India’s collective commitment to transforming yoga from a global movement into a community celebration of health and harmony.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Ministry of Ayush wrote, “Only 1 day remains until International Yoga Day 2026. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, ‘Healthy people help create a healthy society, and yoga ensures this.’ Let’s come together to promote this wonderful social service and embrace this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging.'”
