Srinagar, July 11: The Amarnath Yatra 2026 has reached a significant milestone. Since its commencement on July 3, the number of pilgrims has surpassed 200,000 in just eight days. On Saturday, another group of 6,482 pilgrims departed from Jammu to the valley.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “The holy Amarnath Yatra is a magnificent example of faith, with the number of pilgrims exceeding 200,000 in just eight days. The journey is proceeding smoothly on both routes, and the influx of devotees will continue in the coming weeks. Har Har Mahadev.”
On Saturday, a new batch of 6,482 pilgrims left from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the valley. This group departed early under strict security, consisting of a convoy of 268 vehicles. A total of 2,353 pilgrims headed to the Baltal base camp, while 4,129 set off for the Nunwan base camp. Among the pilgrims are 4,838 men, 1,387 women, 16 children, 171 sadhus, and 70 sadhvis.
On Friday, over 29,000 pilgrims visited the holy cave to pay their respects to Baba Barfani. Officials reported that a total of 29,507 pilgrims from various parts of the country visited the temple, located at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the Kashmir Himalayas. In total, 201,008 pilgrims have visited the temple in the past eight days.
Additionally, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Baltal base camp on Friday to review the arrangements for the Baba Amarnath Yatra. He inspected hospitals, on-the-spot registration centers, tents, and other facilities, directing all relevant departments to ensure a smooth and safe journey for the devotees.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the convenience of Baba Amarnath’s devotees should be the top priority. All arrangements, from registration to accommodation, travel routes, and darshan, should operate seamlessly without any hindrance. He stated that the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board and all relevant departments are fully committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and memorable travel experience for the pilgrims. He also instructed officials to take strict legal action against those overcharging devotees or engaging in fraudulent registrations.
It is noteworthy that this year’s yatra will last for 57 days, concluding on August 28, coinciding with the festivals of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
