Ranchi, August 25: The investigation into the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) exam scam is expanding rapidly. Based on interrogations with the main accused, Abhay Tiwari, the CID-SIT has questioned over 100 candidates so far. On Tuesday, around 20 more candidates received notices for questioning.
The investigative agency is examining the roles of suspicious candidates, intermediaries, and individuals connected to the examination centers, using electronic evidence and information gathered from the accused. Abhay Tiwari previously served as the Block Supply Officer in the Godda district’s Podaiyahaat. Before entering government service, he worked as a marketing manager for the outsourcing agency TDPPL, which was involved in organizing exams. He reportedly succeeded in over five exams through manipulative means.
The CID is also investigating Tiwari’s role and connections in various competitive exams from previous years. During questioning, Tiwari allegedly revealed shocking details about the deals made for selection in competitive exams. According to his statements, candidates were charged approximately five lakh rupees to pass the preliminary civil service exam, ten lakh rupees for the main exam, and between 40 to 60 lakh rupees for final selection.
Similarly, for the Forest Range Officer position, candidates were charged between 20 to 25 lakh rupees, and for the Assistant Conservator of Forests, the fees ranged from 30 to 35 lakh rupees. The investigation has also uncovered information about assistance provided during the PGT teacher recruitment exam through software and remote access. The agency is probing the entire technical network and the roles of those involved.
Abhay Tiwari’s brother, Akshay Tiwari, and his wife, Sushma Kumari, have also been arrested. During their interrogation, information regarding alleged financial transactions and connections to the exam scam is being gathered. The investigative agency is looking into the roles of former JPSC chairman L. Khyangte and other officials and staff associated with the commission. Tiwari claimed during questioning that he paid the then JPSC chairman two crore rupees in exchange for securing a contract for TDPPL. Former members of the JPSC and JSSC secretary Sudhir Kumar Gupta have also been interrogated. Opposition parties and student organizations have been demanding that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
