New Delhi, February 3: A significant uproar erupted in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday regarding the recent agreement with the United States. The opposition claimed that details about the deal were being disclosed from Washington. Following heated protests, they staged a walkout from the house. In response, Leader of the House JP Nadda labeled the opposition’s actions as unpatriotic, asserting that they show no concern for the nation. He described their behavior as anti-national.
The issue of the deal with the US was raised in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, prompting a ruckus from the opposition. Congress Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh stated that they were receiving information about the agreement from Washington. He questioned the situation, asking what was happening.
The opposition argued that the government had not provided any information, while the US had made details public. In response, JP Nadda stated, “Late last night, the President of the United States posted about tariffs, informing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also discussed the Prime Minister as a true friend. Subsequently, the Prime Minister thanked him and spoke about trade relations between India and the US.”
While addressing the Rajya Sabha, Nadda assured that the government would inform the house about the entire trade deal. He mentioned that the relevant ministers would provide details. He criticized the opposition’s uproar as detrimental to democracy.
Nadda characterized the Congress and opposition’s behavior as irresponsible, expressing readiness to answer every question posed by them. He suggested that their outburst stemmed from desperation.
However, the opposition remained unsatisfied with Nadda’s statements and continued their protests, ultimately walking out of the house. Nadda condemned the behavior of Congress and its allies, stating they showed no interest in national development or trade, only seeking to politicize every issue.
He recalled that previously, they demanded a response to Trump regarding a 50% tariff. Now, with the US President praising Prime Minister Modi and announcing a reduction in tariffs to 18%, Nadda emphasized that the government does not shy away from discussions. He reiterated that the government would provide information on the matter in the house.
Nadda accused the opposition of trying to create an atmosphere suggesting that the government is hiding information and not engaging in discussions. He claimed the opposition lacked any substantial issues, labeling their behavior as irresponsible and unpatriotic, indicating they have no genuine interest in the country.
