New Delhi, May 13: The political climate has heated up following the decision to cancel the NEET UG 2026 examination due to a paper leak. Opposition parties have targeted the central government, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the Education Minister. Parties such as Shiv Sena (UBT), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have accused the government of corruption and jeopardizing students’ futures.
In an interview with a news agency, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi stated, “Over 2.3 million students appeared for the exam. They expected the NTA and the government to prevent paper leaks and ensure a fair examination. However, the leak occurred, leading to the cancellation of the exam. A similar issue affected nearly 2.4 million students in 2024. Students and parents protested, and the matter reached the Supreme Court. An investigation was promised, and a committee was formed, but the report is still pending.”
She added, “During this Education Minister’s tenure, the UGC guidelines of 2025 also stirred controversy. The mental and emotional health of students is continuously affected. Repeated incidents of paper leaks are ruining their years of hard work. This reflects a corrupt system. Everyone, from the Education Minister to senior bureaucrats, should be held accountable and resign.”
TMC MP Kirti Azad accused the government of having ties to BJP workers and ministers in Rajasthan regarding the paper leak. He mentioned Dinesh Bival and Mangilal Bival, both local BJP election candidates who have been apprehended.
Kirti Azad remarked, “When it is clear that there are connections with Rajasthan’s ministers and legislators, what is the benefit of a CBI investigation? In 2024, a CBI inquiry was also mentioned, but did the BJP members turn out to be honest? They bought and sold the papers. These individuals are experts in theft—stealing votes, NEET, and jobs. The Prime Minister talks about providing employment, yet 2.4 million youths have lost their job opportunities.”
RJD MP Manoj Jha stated, “Children prepare for years for the NEET exam. Suddenly, they learn that the exam is canceled due to a paper leak. A mafia syndicate operates from the bottom to the top within the system. We raised this issue in Parliament in 2024. The government will do nothing; it will only stage a CBI charade. After a few days, everything will be quiet.”
He questioned, “What will happen to those families whose dreams have been shattered? Will they be able to prepare again with the same resources?”
Opposition parties have united in demanding the resignation of the Education Minister. They are also calling for a fair investigation into the entire matter and strict action against those responsible. The opposition argues that dragging a crucial examination like NEET into controversy repeatedly is a disservice to students’ futures.
