Patna, April 20: A significant political development has emerged in Bihar as the Janata Dal (United) held its first major legislative party meeting following Nitish Kumar’s resignation as Chief Minister.
The meeting took place at 1 Aney Marg in Patna and lasted for about an hour, but no immediate decision was made regarding a new leader for the legislative party. Instead, the party unanimously granted its national president, Nitish Kumar, the authority to select the new leader.
After the meeting, JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar confirmed to the media that a formal resolution was passed, entrusting Nitish Kumar with the final decision-making power. He emphasized that all party members expressed deep gratitude for Kumar’s governance, leadership, and efforts to enhance Bihar’s recognition on both national and international platforms.
Neeraj Kumar stated, “The authority to select the leader of the legislative party has been given to our national president, Nitish Kumar. The legislative party unanimously expressed appreciation for his actions and achievements.”
During the meeting, Nitish Kumar also indicated that he would remain actively engaged with party leaders by touring various regions of the state while fulfilling parliamentary responsibilities. He mentioned that his goal is to stay directly connected with organizational matters and the progress of government schemes.
Addressing speculation about internal party differences, Neeraj Kumar clarified that there is no dispute whatsoever. “After all, our party’s name is ‘United,'” he remarked. He also made it clear that no specific names were discussed during the meeting, and the authority to choose a leader rests solely with Nitish Kumar.
Interestingly, the lack of an immediate decision has fueled political speculation. The proposal to grant this authority to Nitish Kumar was put forth by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, which received unanimous support.
Before the meeting, posters supporting Nishant Kumar emerged, presenting him as a potential future leader. However, party sources clarified that Nishant Kumar is currently ineligible for the position as he is not a member of any legislative house. His candidacy would only be possible if he is elected as a member of the legislative assembly or council.
