Maharajganj, June 14: Uttar Pradesh Minister Dayashankar Mishra, known as ‘Dayalu’, defended the central government’s policies in response to opposition allegations regarding inflation and fuel prices. He asserted that despite global crises and conflicts, India has seen a relatively modest increase in petroleum prices compared to many other nations.
Mishra highlighted that the entire world is grappling with economic challenges and inflationary pressures. He pointed out that even powerful countries like the United States have experienced significant hikes in inflation rates. Therefore, he emphasized that India’s situation should be assessed in a global context.
He stated that a comparison of fuel prices with neighboring countries and other nations would reveal that India has managed to keep fuel price increases to a minimum, even under challenging conditions.
The minister noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi understands the public’s issues and economic challenges well. He mentioned that the government has adopted a balanced approach in response to the circumstances, striving to face global crises through limited price increases.
Mishra explained that rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran, along with disruptions in international supply chains, have impacted the petroleum market. As one of the world’s largest oil-importing countries, India is affected by fluctuations in the international market.
Despite these challenges, Mishra asserted that the central government continues to make decisions with the public’s interests in mind, taking necessary steps to mitigate the effects of inflation. He stated that the government’s goal is to minimize the economic burden on ordinary citizens as much as possible.
In response to accusations from opposition parties regarding the alleged misuse of constitutional institutions by the BJP, he stated that democratic institutions are functioning with complete fairness and transparency. He accused the opposition of questioning these institutions only when election results do not favor them.
Mishra pointed out that the opposition consistently raises concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission, yet accepts the electoral process and electronic voting machines (EVMs) when they achieve a majority in a state.
He remarked that this contradictory behavior indicates the opposition’s attempts to blame constitutional institutions for their political failures. He noted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is currently in power in 22 states, which reflects the public’s trust and support. The NDA has come to power by winning the hearts of the people and focusing on a development agenda.
Mishra further stated that opposition parties, in a state of despair, attempt to cast doubt on the impartiality of constitutional institutions, while the reality is that these institutions are functioning in accordance with democratic values and constitutional provisions. The public’s trust in both the government and institutions remains strong, which is the greatest strength of democracy.
