
Mahasamund, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has been directed to take effective legal action against marijuana trafficking, transportation, and sale, while also conducting thorough financial investigations. Following these directives, local police have been actively engaged in investigations.
In Mahasamund district, police received a tip-off about a man waiting for a bus with a bag containing marijuana. Acting swiftly, the Komakhan police arrived at the specified location and apprehended the individual who was waiting.
Upon questioning, the suspect identified himself as Mahesh Kalakhor, a 29-year-old resident of Bharatwada Road, Mangalmurti Society, New Om Nagar, Paradi, in Nagpur, Maharashtra. A search of his bag revealed a total of 5.258 kilograms of marijuana, valued at approximately ₹262,900.
When asked, Kalakhor claimed he was transporting the marijuana from Muniguda, Odisha, to Nagpur, Maharashtra. He has been charged under relevant sections of the law and is now in custody as police continue their investigation.
In a related incident, on the same day, police in Gujarat’s Valsad district took significant action against illegal drug trafficking by destroying nearly ₹32.39 crore worth of narcotics, which had been seized in 100 cases. This destruction was carried out in the presence of a Special Disposal Committee, adhering to the rules of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. The district police announced that more seizures related to over 14 cases will also be destroyed in the coming days.
