
Sopore, April 24: The Sopore police have intensified their efforts in the ongoing campaign against drugs as part of the 100-day drug-free Jammu and Kashmir initiative. In a recent operation, a drug smuggler was apprehended within the jurisdiction of the Fruit Mandi police station.
According to police reports, a suspicious individual was stopped during a checkpoint at the Bagh-e-Sundari Crossing. Upon searching, authorities seized substances including Spasmoproxyvon Plus capsules and Alprazolam tablets. The smuggler was arrested at the scene, identified as Zaid Bashir Bhatt, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhatt, a resident of Upper Ashpeer.
A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at the Sopore police station. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the smuggler’s sources and broader connections.
The Sopore police reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking throughout the district, aiming to dismantle drug networks and protect the community from the dangers of substance abuse. They reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring a safe, healthy, and drug-free society as part of the drug-free Jammu and Kashmir campaign.
Previously, on April 20, police in Pulwama arrested two motorcyclists with heroin. During a checkpoint, the police at Neva Pulwama stopped a motorcycle traveling from Hasanwani to Singoo Narbal. A green polyethylene bag was found under the motorcycle seat, containing a substance resembling heroin, weighing approximately 7.50 grams. The individuals identified themselves as Mohammad Altaf Lone from Turka Waghm and Sameer Ahmad Dar from Batpora. A case has been registered against both under the NDPS Act at the Pulwama police station, and an investigation has commenced.
