Odisha Engineer Arrested for Forging Deputy Speakers Signature

Bhubaneswar, June 18: The Commissionerate Police arrested Lakshman Hembram, an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) from the Harichandanpur block in the Keonjhar district, on Wednesday. He is accused of forging the signature of Deputy Speaker Bhawani Shankar Bhoi to facilitate a transfer in Sundargarh district.

Hembram was taken into custody under a case registered at the Capital Police Station on June 13. The complaint was filed by Niranjan Kumar Shah, the Deputy Speaker’s private secretary.

In a letter to the inspector in charge of the Capital Police Station, Shah requested the registration of an FIR against Hembram and Monalisa Behera, another AEE from the Banspal block. They are alleged to have forged the Deputy Speaker’s signature, created fake documents, and unauthorizedly used the Deputy Speaker’s official work order pad.

Shah further alleged that both officials violated provisions of the Information Technology Act and abused government service rules.

He noted that it has come to light that the aforementioned officials allegedly created fake documents bearing the Deputy Speaker’s forged signature and official notification pad. These documents were presented to the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department to facilitate their transfer to the Baragaon block and Sadar block in Sundargarh district.

Shah emphasized that these documents were neither issued nor authorized by the Deputy Speaker’s office. He stated that such acts constitute serious criminal offenses, including forgery, tampering with government records, using fake documents as genuine, fraud, impersonation, criminal conspiracy, and abuse of public office. These actions are punishable under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Information Technology Act, and other relevant laws.

In light of these facts, he has requested that an FIR be registered and appropriate legal action be taken against the accused as per the law.
