
Greater Noida, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Beta-2 police in Greater Noida have apprehended a notorious thief involved in a series of home burglaries. The suspect was arrested on October 2, 2026, with police recovering approximately ₹11 lakh worth of gold and silver jewelry, along with an illegal knife.
According to police reports, the thief, identified as Sarman alias Shambhu, son of Itwari, hails from Badshah Colony in Dadri, Gautam Buddha Nagar. He allegedly conducted reconnaissance on vacant homes before executing his thefts.
On the day of his arrest, police acted on local intelligence and beat policing to apprehend him near the Labor Gol Chakkar area. The recovered items include three necklaces, two forehead ornaments, and two delicate chains for earrings, all made of gold. Additionally, two anklets, two samples, a necklace, a bracelet, four children’s bangles, and four bangles were taken into custody.
The total value of the seized jewelry is estimated to be around ₹11 lakh. In response to the rising burglary incidents in the Beta-2 area, a special police team was formed to investigate. Officers reviewed footage from approximately 250 CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the crime scenes and identified the suspect through surveillance and local intelligence.
Upon tracking down the suspect, police arrested him with the stolen jewelry. During interrogation, he admitted to committing thefts in various locations within the Beta-2 jurisdiction. Notably, he was involved in a jewelry theft in the Alpha-1 area about seven to eight months ago and another incident in Alpha-2 in February 2026.
Authorities revealed that the thief specifically targeted homes that had been unoccupied for some time. He would wait for the right moment to enter and steal valuable items. Police are currently questioning him further to gather information about additional thefts he may have committed and his accomplices.
Records indicate that the suspect has a history of criminal activity, with multiple cases registered against him at the Beta-2 and Surajpur police stations, including theft, burglary, possession of stolen goods, and violations of the Arms Act. Following the recovery of the illegal knife, police are pursuing further legal action under the Arms Act. Investigations into other thefts related to the suspect are ongoing.
