Congress Leader Accuses BJP of Undermining Democracy in Bihar

Patna, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Shakil Ahmed Khan, a Congress leader, voiced strong criticism against the BJP during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Patna on October 2. He accused the ruling party of undermining democratic processes and infringing on citizens’ voting rights.

Khan emphasized the necessity of opposing actions that weaken the democratic framework in the country. He claimed that the BJP, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Election Commissioner, is damaging the integrity of democracy. He pointed out that the rights granted to citizens by the Constitution must be upheld at all costs. Referring to the recent elections in West Bengal, Khan noted that many voters had been removed from the electoral rolls, only to be reinstated after investigations revealed their eligibility. He questioned how democracy could thrive if citizens are deprived of their voting rights, suggesting that the BJP is resorting to such tactics after losing public support.

Addressing concerns about seat-sharing and electoral strategies within the coalition in Bihar, Khan stated that the Congress has been a long-standing partner in the alliance. He expressed the party’s desire for all coalition members to engage in discussions before making electoral decisions. He affirmed that the Congress has the right to contest elections and that the party’s leadership has made clear decisions regarding this matter. Khan acknowledged that delays in decision-making occurred due to insufficient discussions among coalition partners.

He further remarked that political adjustments have taken place in other states regarding seat allocation, and similar strategies will be employed in Bihar. The Congress intends to enter the elections with a strong organizational presence and well-prepared candidates.

When asked about recent statements made by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Khan refrained from commenting directly. He stated that while he could not address Yadav’s remarks, the Congress candidates are fully prepared to compete vigorously in the elections. Regarding the upcoming MLC elections, he expressed confidence that Congress would secure victory against candidates Anant Singh and Neeraj Kumar.
