Kohima, March 19: The 9th Northeast Youth Festival 2026 has commenced at the Chumoukedima Football Stadium in Nagaland. This event is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the state’s Youth Resources and Sports Department.
During the inauguration, Nagaland Governor Nand Kishor Yadav expressed gratitude to the ministry for entrusting the state with hosting the youth festival. He warmly welcomed representatives from all eight northeastern states, along with participants from My Bharat and the National Service Scheme. His remarks highlighted that their presence symbolizes unity, cultural exchange, and active youth participation.
The Governor emphasized the festival’s significance, stating its aim is to promote unity, harmony, and cultural exchange among the youth. He referred to this year’s theme, “Ashtalakshmi: Celebrate the Force of Youth and Progress,” noting it represents the energy, diversity, and immense potential of the region’s youth.
He encouraged participants to engage actively in various programs, interact with one another, and forge lasting friendships. Stressing the role of youth in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047, he urged them to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
The Governor commended the efforts of the ministry, state government, and all stakeholders involved in organizing the festival.
Youth Resources and Sports Advisor S. Koshy Yimkhiung extended best wishes to all participants and guests in his welcome speech. He described the festival as a celebration of unity in diversity and a platform to showcase the talents of youth from the northeastern states.
He encouraged participants to fully engage, appreciate each other’s cultures, and make the most of this opportunity. He also expressed hope that the festival would be meaningful and memorable.
