Noida, April 27: In a significant development in the widely publicized labor violence case, the court has taken a firm stance by remanding three key accused to two days of police custody. The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Third) Virendra Agarwal approved the police custody of Satyam Verma, Himanshu Thakur, and Aditya Anand, stating that thorough questioning and recovery of digital evidence from the accused are crucial for a fair and effective investigation.
According to the court’s order, the police custody will commence at 9 AM on April 29 and will remain effective until 6 PM on April 30. The court has directed the investigator to ensure that the accused undergo mandatory medical examinations before being taken into custody and after their return to jail, to prevent any possibility of irregularities.
This case was registered at the Phase-2 police station, where the accused face serious charges under various sections of the criminal law amendment act and the public property damage prevention act.
The police allege that a conspiracy was orchestrated to incite violence during the protest. The accused are accused of provoking workers, inciting crowds, and deliberately disrupting industrial activities.
The investigation has also revealed that social media platforms, particularly Telegram and WhatsApp groups, were extensively used to execute the conspiracy. The police argued in court that recovering electronic devices such as laptops, CPUs, and mobile phones from the accused is essential. The data obtained from these devices could reveal how the violence was planned, who was involved, and how messages were used to incite the crowd.
During the hearing, defense lawyers accused the police of assaulting their clients in custody and forcing them to sign documents. However, the court dismissed these allegations due to a lack of evidence. The court noted that the arrest memos and other documents clearly indicated that the accused were informed of the reasons for their arrest and that legal procedures were followed.
While granting police custody remand, the court also set some important conditions. It allowed the accused’s lawyers to observe the proceedings from a reasonable distance but prohibited them from interfering in the investigation process. Additionally, the court heard bail pleas for 13 other accused on Monday, denying bail for all, including female accused Aakriti, Ruddh Pratap, and Abhishek. The defense lawyer indicated that this decision would be challenged in the higher court. Further investigations and the recovery of digital evidence are expected to lead to more revelations, as police and administration are taking the matter seriously and moving towards strict action.
