Ayodhya, August 28: A remarkable surge of faith was witnessed in Ayodhya on the auspicious occasion of Sawan Purnima. From early Thursday morning, a large number of devotees began arriving at the ghats of the Saryu River. They took holy dips in the river and offered prayers to Lord Shiva, seeking prosperity and a healthy life.
The month of Sawan is particularly significant for the worship of Lord Shiva. Throughout this month, devotees visit temples to perform water offerings to Lord Bholenath. Sawan Purnima marks an important milestone in this religious observance. On this day, devotees bathed in the Saryu and then proceeded to temples to conduct rituals and offer water to the Shiva Lingam.
A priest shared that Sawan Purnima holds special importance for devotees. He noted that for the past month, worshippers have been offering water to Lord Bholenath, engaging in rituals, and dedicating themselves to Shiva worship. It is believed that performing water offerings with devotion and proper rituals during Sawan fulfills the wishes of devotees and brings peace and happiness into their lives.
He also mentioned that Sawan Purnima coincides with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, celebrating the love and trust between brothers and sisters. This festival is celebrated with enthusiasm across the country. Mythological beliefs link this day to the story of King Bali and Goddess Lakshmi, where on this day, Goddess Lakshmi disguised as a poor woman tied a Rakhi to King Bali.
Meanwhile, in Banka, Bihar, a significant crowd of devotees also gathered to celebrate Sawan Purnima. Many arrived at a famous temple to offer water to Lord Shiva. The temple premises were bustling with devotees from early morning, praying for family peace and prosperity through their offerings to Lord Bholenath.
