Bengaluru, April 27: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has sentenced Mohammed Sharik to ten years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the Mangaluru blast case. Sharik confessed to his crime in court.
The incident occurred on November 19, 2022, in the Kankanady area of Mangaluru. According to investigative agencies, Sharik was allegedly on his way to plant a bomb at the Kadri Manjunath Temple when the explosion took place, preventing a larger disaster.
Sharik himself was injured in the blast, as was auto driver Purushottam Poojari. After nearly three months of treatment, Sharik was taken into NIA custody for questioning. The agency later completed its investigation and filed a charge sheet in the case.
Earlier, Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara expressed hope for a fair judgment, stating that the government would act based on the court’s decision. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Parameshwara mentioned that the police department had taken all necessary steps under the law and presented essential evidence in court. “I expect a just verdict. Now we wait,” he said.
In response to allegations made by the BJP regarding the case, the Home Minister noted that there are two aspects to the matter. One involves political rhetoric, where statements are made in public discourse. The opposition has continued to make such comments.
He emphasized that the most crucial aspect is the legal process. The court will announce its decision today, after which the government will determine its next steps.
