A 21-year-old man was arrested with heroin at KBR Airport in Leh, marking a significant drug seizure in the region.

Leh, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : A 21-year-old man was arrested outside KBR Airport in Leh on October 19, 2026, after being found in possession of a significant amount of heroin. According to police, Jigmet Chosgyal, a resident of Chumathang, was arriving on an Indigo Airlines flight from Delhi when authorities received credible information about him carrying drugs.

The police statement revealed that the heroin was allegedly concealed among his personal belongings in a bag, intended for sale to like-minded individuals in Leh at a high price. This incident falls under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and a case has been registered at Leh police station, prompting an investigation.

During the investigation, approximately 21.02 grams of heroin were seized from the individual. He has been taken into custody, and his family has been informed about the reasons for his arrest via mobile phone.

Authorities noted that this seizure is unprecedented in terms of the quantity of heroin found in Ladakh. The investigation continues, with early inquiries suggesting that the drugs may have originated from Naigaon and Chandigarh.

Drug use in Ladakh is becoming increasingly common, as the region grapples with a growing substance abuse crisis. Recent reports indicate 298 new drug-related cases in the union territory, including 101 related to opium and 40 involving cannabis and other substances.

Following directives from Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena, Ladakh’s newly formed Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has initiated extensive operations, seizing over 1.5 kilograms of cannabis within the first week of their campaign.
