Sonu Nigam Apologizes to Kannada Community Over Controversial Remarks
Sonu Nigam publicly apologizes to the Kannada community, expressing regret over past comments that hurt sentiments.

Bengaluru, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : Singer Sonu Nigam has publicly apologized to the people of Karnataka for a controversial statement made over a year ago. He had previously compared the demand for Kannada songs to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In a heartfelt video message, Nigam expressed his love for the people of Karnataka and conveyed his regret if his words caused any hurt.
He emphasized the importance of understanding in maintaining relationships, stating, “If you love someone and want to keep the relationship, you should have no problem saying ‘sorry’ a thousand times.” Nigam acknowledged the warmth he has received from the Kannada community and expressed his deep respect for the relationship.
The issue resurfaced when pro-Kannada organizations protested against Nigam’s planned concert in Bengaluru, demanding that the police revoke the event’s permission. Following this backlash, Nigam reached out to Narayan Gowda, head of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, and subsequently released the apology video.
Gowda shared on X that Nigam recognized the hurt caused by his earlier remarks. He noted, “We all love Sonu Nigam’s songs. There was no personal hatred towards him; we simply could not accept his statement, which is why our protest was natural.” He added that with Nigam’s apology, it is time to put the matter to rest, emphasizing that forgiveness is a part of Kannada culture.
Gowda also mentioned other renowned singers who are not Kannada but have been embraced by the people of Karnataka, highlighting the rich tradition of music in the region. He expressed hope that Nigam would continue to sing Kannada songs and that his concerts would remain a staple in Karnataka.
In closing, Gowda remarked, “May music enhance people’s lives and love triumph.”
