NHAI Selects 1,692.5 Kilometers of Highways for Monetization Across Nine States

New Delhi, May 28: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified highways spanning 1,692.5 kilometers across nine states for monetization during the fiscal year 2026-27. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Thursday.

The ministry stated that the selection is part of the “Toll-Operate-Transfer” (TOT) and “Infrastructure Investment Trust” (InvITs) monetization frameworks. Notably, the list excludes assets earmarked for monetization through the “Highway Infra Investment Trust” (RIIT) for the same fiscal year.

According to the ministry, the selected national highway assets cover a total length of 1,692.5 kilometers, including segments from Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra. Collectively, these highways represent significant economic and logistics corridors with substantial traffic potential, making them crucial for connectivity.

The monetization process will be executed through transparent and systematic mechanisms under the TOT and InvITs frameworks. These frameworks have proven effective in attracting long-term institutional investment for the expansion of national highway infrastructure. They also ensure efficient asset management and operational excellence by adopting innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable infrastructure development.

This initiative is part of the Government of India’s asset monetization strategy. The primary goal is to leverage operational national highway assets to raise capital for future infrastructure development, promote private sector participation, and accelerate the expansion and modernization of the national highway network. This will assist investors and bidders in planning their investments more efficiently.
