New Delhi, June 23: A tragic incident has occurred in Koderma district of Jharkhand, where the body of 22-year-old Sajna Kumari was discovered hanging in her parental home on Tuesday. Her family claims that she was subjected to harassment by her in-laws over dowry demands, which led her to take her own life.
Sajna’s father, Basant Narayan Singh, alleged that since her marriage, she faced both mental and physical abuse due to a demand for an additional dowry of five lakh rupees. He has accused her husband Amar Singh, along with her father-in-law Mahendra Singh and mother-in-law Asha Devi, of being responsible for the harassment.
According to family members, on June 18, they brought Sajna back to her parental home to attend a family wedding. After returning from the ceremony on Monday night, Sajna was at home when she received a call from her husband, and they spoke for an extended period.
Family members reported that everyone went to their respective rooms to sleep that night. However, when they attempted to wake Sajna the next morning, they found her room door locked from the inside. Despite calling out to her, there was no response, prompting them to break down the door. Inside, they found Sajna hanging from the ceiling fan. She was immediately brought down, but it was too late, as she had already passed away.
The police have initiated an investigation into the case. Officials stated that they are looking into the family’s allegations and other relevant details. Further actions will be determined based on the post-mortem report and the ongoing investigation.
