Newlywed Couple Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident in Tumakuru, Karnataka

Tumakuru, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic hit-and-run incident near Tumakuru, Karnataka, claimed the lives of a newlywed couple on Wednesday. The accident occurred on National Highway 48, close to Dwaralu, and has left the local community in shock.

The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Darshan and 21-year-old Usha Rani, who had celebrated their marriage just a month and a half ago. According to police reports, the couple was riding their motorcycle when an unidentified vehicle collided with them. The impact was so severe that Darshan died at the scene.

Usha Rani suffered serious injuries and was being transported to a hospital when she succumbed to her injuries en route. The couple was reportedly out for a ride when the accident occurred. After the collision, the driver of the unknown vehicle fled the scene.

The Tavarekere police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. Further details about the incident are still awaited.

This incident follows another tragic accident that occurred on Tuesday in Mandya, where a couple and their daughter were killed when a tanker ran over them. The deceased have been identified as Mutturaj, his wife Kavya, and their daughter Keertana.

Mutturaj, who worked at a factory in Bengaluru’s Peenya area, was returning home from celebrating the Ganesh festival with his family when the accident occurred around 4:15 AM. Police reports indicate that the tanker struck their scooter from behind before running over them. CCTV footage captured the tanker dragging the scooter for some distance after the collision.

Authorities suspect that the accident was caused by the tanker driver’s reckless and speeding behavior. Following the incident, the driver fled the scene, and police are actively searching for him.

In a similar hit-and-run case on the night of May 13, a 45-year-old man was killed in Bengaluru’s northern outskirts, while his wife and daughter were injured. A car reportedly struck their electric scooter, and police believe the driver fled without assisting the victims. Although the incident was recorded on CCTV, the bright headlights of the car obscured its registration number, complicating the identification of the driver.

The community is mourning the loss of these families, highlighting the urgent need for road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
