New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : Vikramjeet Singh Sahni, a member of the Rajya Sabha, expressed strong disapproval on Sunday regarding the use of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi for protests. He emphasized that religious sites should remain dedicated to worship, service, and spiritual reflection, rather than becoming venues for political demonstrations.
Sahni highlighted the long-standing tradition of Gurudwaras welcoming all individuals for community meals and shelter, regardless of their background or intentions. However, he cautioned against misusing this spirit of compassion and hospitality, warning that sacred places should not be transformed into protest grounds.
Clarifying the events, the MP noted that police officers had passed through designated areas for footwear storage around 11 a.m. on Saturday and did not enter the main Gurudwara complex. Protesters began gathering around 1 p.m. that day. Sahni expressed concern that, despite requests from Gurudwara volunteers to avoid such activities, slogans were chanted and placards displayed within the complex.
He reiterated that there should be a clear distinction between providing humanitarian aid and allowing a place of worship to become a site for protests. “Our Gurudwaras are symbols of service, compassion, and brotherhood. Let us maintain their sanctity and not allow such incidents to become a means of spreading hatred or division in society,” he stated.
In addition, Sahni thanked popular singer Diljit Dosanjh and event organizers for considering his request to reschedule a concert in Delhi on November 1. He expressed heartfelt gratitude, calling Dosanjh a true son of Punjab and a global icon who inspires millions. He noted that Dosanjh’s sensitivity to the suffering of victims and their families reflects the compassion and responsibility that come with his stature.
