Bulawayo, August 1 (H.S.) — New Zealand secured a commanding 9-wicket victory over Zimbabwe on the third day of the first Test, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The win was powered by excellent bowling performances from Matt Henry, William O’Rourke, and Mitchell Santner.

Santner claimed four wickets in Zimbabwe’s second innings, while Henry and O’Rourke picked up three wickets each. Zimbabwe collapsed for 165 runs in their second innings, setting New Zealand a target of just 8 runs, which they chased down in 2.2 overs for the loss of one wicket.
Early Breakthroughs for New Zealand
Zimbabwe began the day at 31/2 but quickly lost Nick Welch and Vincent Masikesa. O’Rourke had Welch caught behind and then dismissed Masikesa with a sharp bouncer, caught at short leg.
Veteran Sean Williams and captain Craig Ervine steadied the innings with a half-century partnership that featured nine boundaries. However, both were dismissed in quick succession before lunch. Williams was caught on the leg side off Santner for 49, while Ervine edged a delivery from Henry and was caught. At lunch, Zimbabwe stood at 114/6.
Collapse Continues in Second Session
In the second session, Sikandar Raza attempted a pull shot off Henry but was caught. Santner then bowled Nyamuri, reducing Zimbabwe to 126/8. Tadiwanashe Tsiga and Blessing Muzarabani put up a brief fight, surviving some dropped catches by New Zealand. But Santner returned to dismiss Muzarabani (19) and then Tsiga (27), completing his four-wicket haul.
By the tea break, Zimbabwe’s innings had ended, leaving New Zealand a target of only 8 runs.

Though Devon Conway, who had scored 88 in the first innings, was bowled by Nyamuri after hitting a boundary, Henry Nicholls (4*) finished the job with another four, sealing the win for New Zealand.
