Bhubaneswar, 17 August (Kiran News). The Regional Meteorological Centre on Sunday predicted that a new low-pressure area is likely to form near the north-west and west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday. Due to its impact, rainfall activity is expected to intensify in Odisha, which could lead to waterlogging and flood-like situations in several districts.

According to officials, rainfall has already begun in many parts of the state and its intensity is expected to increase over the next 48 hours. The Meteorological Department today issued a yellow alert for 24 districts, estimating rainfall between 7 and 11 centimetres.
An orange alert has been declared for Koraput and Malkangiri districts on Monday, where very heavy rainfall is expected. On 19 August, an orange warning will remain in effect for Koraput and Kalahandi, while heavy rainfall is likely to continue in other districts as well.
Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from 18 to 20 August as sea conditions are expected to remain rough and dangerous. The administration has appealed to people living in sensitive and low-lying areas to stay alert, as continuous rainfall could disrupt normal life.
