Rajasthans DGP Urges Enhanced Vigilance and Effective Action to Maintain Law and Order

Rajasthans DGP Rajiv Kumar Sharma emphasizes the need for proactive measures to ensure law and order ahead of upcoming elections.

Jaipur, October 14 (Daily Kiran) : Police Chief Rajiv Kumar Sharma has called on law enforcement officials across Rajasthan to heighten their vigilance and ensure prompt and effective responses to any situation. During a review meeting on crime and law enforcement held at police headquarters, he addressed several critical issues, including the timely resolution of pending cases, crime prevention, monitoring sensitive incidents, preparing for upcoming Panchayati Raj elections, and maintaining professional conduct among police personnel.

The meeting, attended via video conference by Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) from various regions and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from all districts, highlighted the importance of identifying potentially disruptive disputes. Sharma instructed officers to prioritize monitoring these disputes and to compile a list for regular reviews at the police station, circle, and district levels. He emphasized the need for coordination with relevant departments, such as revenue and forest services, to resolve conflicts efficiently.

To prevent local disputes from escalating into serious law and order issues, officers were directed to utilize mediation, preventive measures, and other appropriate legal methods. In light of recent incidents involving police personnel allegedly engaged in criminal activities, Sharma stressed the importance of identifying and monitoring such officers, ensuring appropriate action is taken according to regulations. He urged all officers to maintain a sensitive, courteous, and cooperative demeanor towards the public and to address complaints in a timely manner.

In response to recent events, the DGP instructed senior officials to ensure effective monitoring of sensitive and serious cases. He underscored the necessity of promptly reporting these incidents to senior management and taking swift, fact-based actions. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of sharing accurate information through press and social media channels. Sharma made it clear that negligence in law enforcement matters would not be tolerated, and accountability would be enforced at all levels.

He also directed a timely resolution of pending cases within police stations, instructing relevant SPs to review cases outstanding for over a year and IGPs to assess those pending for more than three years. Sharma called for a strategic plan to expedite the resolution of older cases, pending charge sheets, and final reports, while also addressing procedural or other barriers that delay case resolutions.

For districts experiencing a rise in cases under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Indian Evidence Act (IEA) exceeding five percent, officers were tasked with analyzing crime trends and developing effective action plans. Districts with comparatively fewer cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were urged to intensify their efforts against drug-related crimes.

Similarly, districts witnessing significant increases in crimes against women were directed to investigate underlying causes and formulate solid strategies to counter this trend. The meeting also reviewed enforcement activities under local laws and the NDPS Act, with officials instructed to implement corrective measures and enhance enforcement.

As the Panchayati Raj elections and upcoming festivals approach, Sharma has mandated comprehensive police deployment plans for all districts and emphasized the need for heightened surveillance in sensitive areas. Officers were advised to identify anti-social elements, take preventive actions against them, increase regular patrols, and ensure effective police checkpoints.

Sharma further encouraged the use of body cameras by police personnel during checkpoint operations to promote transparency, accountability, and professionalism. He stressed the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations and appropriate actions against violators. In conclusion, he called upon all officers to remain vigilant, strengthen monitoring, improve police readiness, and take timely, effective actions to maintain law and order throughout Rajasthan.
