
Haridwar, June 26: Union Minister Virendra Kumar led a significant event on Friday, where he administered an oath against substance abuse and pledged to ensure a dignified life for the elderly. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a drug-free and inclusive society.
The minister spearheaded a ‘Drug-Free Rally’ during the conclusion of the ‘Drug-Free India Week.’ This week was organized in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, culminating in a national awareness program at Dev Sanskriti University in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
According to an official statement, over 1.31 crore citizens participated in activities aimed at raising awareness and uniting the community. Kumar energized the 4,000 attendees at the rally, showcasing widespread public support for the national movement against substance abuse.
Thousands joined the event both online and offline, including students, youth, volunteers from various spiritual organizations, representatives from the Uttarakhand government, and other local stakeholders.
Representatives from states, union territories, relevant ministries, grant-receiving institutions, de-addiction centers, and other stakeholders from across the country also reaffirmed their collective commitment to building a ‘Drug-Free India.’
These agreements aim to enhance awareness, unite communities, reduce drug demand, and promote the welfare of senior citizens through the message of ‘dignified aging.’
The event also recognized the outstanding efforts and contributions of ‘De-addiction Friends’ in raising awareness against substance abuse and uniting communities.
The Union Minister posted on social media platform X, stating that he flagged off the Drug-Free India Campaign Rally organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the All World Gayatri Pariwar at the Shantikunj campus of Dev Sanskriti University in Haridwar. The rally, featuring prominent spiritual leaders, thousands of students, senior officials, and volunteers for a drug-free India, conveyed a powerful message of de-addiction.
