
Kathmandu, March 28: Nepal’s newly appointed Prime Minister Balendra Shah expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message on Saturday. PM Shah hopes to enhance relations between the two countries across various sectors.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Balendra Shah on his swearing-in as Nepal’s Prime Minister and expressed his eagerness to work together to elevate the friendship between the nations for the benefit of their citizens.
In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office in Nepal, Shah thanked PM Modi, saying, “Thank you for your kind words and good wishes. I am eager to work with you to advance our bilateral relations for the common prosperity of our people.”
Modi’s congratulatory message came after Shah took the oath of office as the leader of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
On the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to Balendra Shah on taking the oath as Prime Minister of Nepal. Your appointment reflects the trust the people of Nepal have in your leadership. I look forward to working with you to further strengthen India-Nepal friendship and cooperation for the mutual benefit of our people.”
Balendra Shah was sworn in before the President on Friday, with the ceremony conducted in accordance with Hindu traditions. This swearing-in was notable for being the first to follow the Vedic Sanatan tradition, featuring the blowing of seven conch shells. Shah is the first leader from the Madhesi community to become Prime Minister and also the youngest Prime Minister in Nepal’s history.
The recent elections have seen a significant representation of young lawmakers, indicating a generational shift in Nepal’s politics.
