NEET UG Exam Paper Leak: NTA to Refund Fees for 2.3 Million Students

New Delhi, May 12: The National Testing Agency (NTA) received its first report of irregularities related to the NEET UG exam on May 7. According to the NTA, measures such as GPS monitoring and watermarks were implemented to ensure the security of the question papers. The exam was conducted on May 3. However, despite these precautions, the NEET UG exam papers were leaked. Consequently, the NTA has canceled the NEET UG exam and will refund the fees to the students. Additionally, there will be no fee charged for the re-examination.

Approximately 2.3 million students participated in the NEET UG exam. The exam held on May 3, 2026, has been annulled, and a new date for the re-examination will be announced officially soon. Students will receive separate notifications regarding this. The NTA has stated that a new admit card will be issued for the re-examination, and a complete schedule will be shared by the agency. Students will not need to reapply; their previous registrations will remain valid.

All information, eligibility, and selected exam centers from the May 2026 examination cycle will automatically be honored for the re-examination. The NTA will not charge any additional exam fees for the students. Furthermore, the examination fees previously paid will be refunded to the students. The NTA will cover all expenses related to the re-examination from its internal resources.

It is noteworthy that a comprehensive investigation into this matter has been assigned to the CBI, ensuring students receive a fair inquiry. The NTA has pledged full cooperation with the investigative agencies and will provide all necessary records. Students and parents are urged to rely solely on official information to avoid misinformation circulating on social media.

Additionally, a helpline and email service have been established for students seeking assistance or information. The NTA acknowledges that the re-examination may cause inconvenience to students and their families, but this decision was made to maintain trust in the examination system. The agency reported that it received information regarding alleged irregularities late on the evening of May 7, four days after the exam, which was forwarded to central agencies for independent investigation and necessary action on the morning of May 8.

The NTA commended the investigative agencies, stating that it is fully cooperating and providing all technical data and necessary support to the relevant agencies.
