Srinagar, March 9: A significant relief has come for NEET candidates in Kashmir. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the registration deadline for NEET-UG 2026 to March 11. Iltija Mufti, spokesperson for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), extended her best wishes to the candidates.
Iltija Mufti took to social media platform X to express her gratitude, stating, “It is a big relief for NEET candidates from Kashmir as the registration deadline has been extended to March 11. I thank the National Testing Agency and the Ministry of Education for considering the severe restrictions on mobile networks across Kashmir. Best wishes to all applicants.”
This decision comes at a time when mobile internet services in Kashmir have been limited to 2G speeds for security reasons. Students faced significant challenges with OTP verification, document uploads, and form submissions. Many students reported that the lack of high-speed internet hindered their ability to complete the registration process.
Previously, on March 6, Sakina Ittoo, the Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, wrote to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan requesting an extension of the deadline. In her letter, she highlighted the serious difficulties faced by students in the Kashmir division due to poor internet speeds. The minister urged that all eligible candidates be given a fair chance.
Student organizations in Kashmir have also raised their voices due to internet restrictions. Organizations like AIMSA have demanded immediate intervention from the NTA and the Union Health Minister. Students reported that they were unable to fill out forms due to OTP failures and slow internet speeds.
The NTA originally opened the NEET-UG 2026 registration on February 8, with the initial deadline set for March 8 at 9 PM. The final deadline for fee payment was scheduled for 11:50 PM.
