Nearly 30 Children Fall Ill After Educational Trip in Jharkhand

Khunti, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : In Khunti, Jharkhand, approximately 30 students from PM Shri High School in Tilmi have fallen ill following an educational trip. The health issues began on Sunday evening, with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, high fever, and abdominal pain surfacing by Monday morning. Several children have been admitted to the Karra Community Health Center for treatment.

Medical professionals report that the children’s conditions are currently stable. The health department suspects that the illnesses may be linked to the educational excursion that took place on October 3. During the trip, students visited Gurukul and Rani Fall in the Torpa block, where they prepared their own meals.

Additionally, some children reportedly consumed food from stalls near the picnic site. It remains unconfirmed whether the illnesses stem from contaminated food or an infection. The health department has initiated an investigation to determine the possible causes. A significant number of the affected children are from Tilmi village, although some cases have also been reported from the villages of Masko and Barwadag.

In response to the situation, the health department has increased monitoring in the impacted villages. Following the directives of Civil Surgeon Dr. Lalit Ranjan Pathak, medical teams have been dispatched to Tilmi, Masko, and Barwadag. Health workers are conducting door-to-door visits to assess the health of children and other residents, identifying suspected cases and providing necessary medications.

Children admitted to the Karra Community Health Center are under close observation by medical staff. The health department has also put the district hospital on alert to ensure prompt treatment if any child’s condition worsens.
