
New Delhi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Navy’s Commanders Conference is currently underway in New Delhi, serving as a high-level platform for strategic discussions and decisions. On Thursday, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Jitin Prasad participated in the conference, highlighting the Navy’s vital contribution to the country’s energy security.
Prasad noted that the government is prioritizing the strengthening of sovereignty in semiconductor and chip production. This initiative aims to establish a robust technological framework capable of withstanding crises.
The conference began on September 29 and concluded on October 1. Addressing the naval commanders, Prasad emphasized the growing interconnection between national security and technological capability in this rapidly evolving technical era. He stressed the importance of swiftly adopting advanced technologies and aligning them with national needs.
During the conference, Prasad received updates on the Indian Navy’s efforts in innovation, indigenization, and the adoption of new technologies. He underscored the increasing significance of artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and emerging technologies, noting their expanding roles beyond general technology sectors into defense applications.
The minister also pointed out the critical challenges and sensitive links present in defense trade in relation to these emerging technologies. He affirmed the government’s commitment to rapidly and effectively adopting new technologies, aiming to create a defense system that is not only technologically proficient but also self-reliant and robust.
Prasad stated that merely developing new technologies is insufficient; they must be integrated into the defense sector swiftly and utilized effectively. He praised the Navy’s initiatives in innovation and indigenization as crucial steps toward achieving comprehensive technological self-reliance. Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of developing a defense system equipped with new technologies, prepared for future challenges.
The Commanders Conference also featured addresses from the Chief of Naval Staff, the Army Chief, and the Chief of Defense Staff. It serves as the largest platform for reviewing the Navy’s operational readiness. Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, during the conference, assessed the maritime security environment and the operational status of the Indian Navy.
He stressed the need for high levels of combat readiness to address existing and emerging challenges in the maritime domain. The emphasis was placed on adapting to rapidly changing circumstances and maintaining quick response capabilities, alongside the urgent need for the swift adoption of technology and development of military capabilities.
