New Delhi, April 29: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken immediate notice of a report concerning the alleged sexual abuse of women and minor girls in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. On Wednesday, the commission issued a notice to officials, requesting a detailed report within seven days.
The case involves a pharmacy student accused of abusing several young women, recording obscene videos, and allegedly using them for blackmail. This incident came to light shortly after the arrest of an individual in Amravati for the sexual exploitation of minor girls.
In an official statement, the NCW highlighted that a 22-year-old suspect is involved, who reportedly lured women and minors through social media, exploited them sexually, recorded obscene videos, and used these for blackmail. The commission indicated that this points to a potentially larger criminal network.
The NCW condemned these heinous acts, stating that such exploitation causes severe physical and mental trauma, instilling fear and insecurity among women and families. This incident raises serious concerns regarding digital safety and cyber surveillance.
The statement further noted, “The commission’s chairperson has directed the Maharashtra DGP to ensure immediate and stringent action under the Indian Penal Code, POCSO Act, and IT Act. This includes identifying all victims, arresting all accused and their accomplices, removing objectionable content from online platforms, and conducting thorough cyber forensic investigations.”
Additionally, the statement requested detailed information about measures for the protection, counseling, medical assistance, and rehabilitation of victims, as well as strategies to prevent future networks of such blackmail and exploitation. A comprehensive report on actions taken is expected within seven days.
