Chandigarh Police Respond to Bomb Threats with Urgent Meeting

Chandigarh police convened a crucial meeting to address recent bomb threats, enhancing security measures across various institutions.

Chandigarh, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : In response to recent bomb threats received via email, Chandigarh police held a critical meeting on Tuesday with various stakeholders to devise a robust and coordinated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The meeting aimed to address these threats effectively and ensure public safety.

The session was chaired by SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, with participation from SSP Operations Rajesh Sharma, SP City Vijay Kumar, and representatives from key city departments. Attendees included officials from private and government schools, major hospitals, fire and emergency services, as well as engineering departments.

Over the past few months, multiple cities across India have experienced similar bomb threats targeting schools, hospitals, and government buildings. Following incidents in Chandigarh, the police have initiated precautionary measures.

During the meeting, SSP Kaur instructed all institutions to enhance their security protocols. She emphasized the necessity for schools, hospitals, and other facilities to implement stringent security measures, including increasing the number of CCTV cameras, installing Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD), and ensuring the availability of essential security equipment.

Additionally, institutions were advised to conduct mock drills at least once a month. This practice aims to prepare students, staff, patients, and the general public for safe evacuation during emergencies.

The police clarified that the SOP being developed will incorporate suggestions and feedback from stakeholders. The goal is to establish a clear, practical, and coordinated response system to ensure immediate and effective action in the event of any threat, thereby safeguarding the public, students, and patients.

Chandigarh police also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious emails or activities without succumbing to rumors.
